In win98 everything seems to be ok with that scsi adapter. What can be wrong?

The display adpter is S3 Savage/Mx, network is built-in realTek 8139. I downloded linux driver from S3, however, it won't work because it told me that I Also the system can find realTek 8139 ,but it doesn't set it up. Realtek and OS/2
When I take the Realtek card out of the computer, the desccribed problem with the Via adapter disappears completely. When I disable the Via Rhine adapter in the BIOS setup, the problem with the Realtek card persists. The described problems will also persist if I exchange the Realtek 8139 for an older Realtek 8029

I'm using an RCA cable modem through a Realtek 8139 network adapter. This is a relatively new PC and has exhibited this behavior since it was new. I've talked with tech suport at the vendor who advised me to remove the unused dial-up modem and, when that produced no change, suggested changing the network adapter.

The /R:500 is supposed to make the driver report itself as "Revision 5.00" instead of revision 2.00. This seems to work, as it solved another problem I had. Not 100% sure, but I think the other "problem" was that the cbenable.sys driver needed this revision. This driver made our Realtek 8139 based ethernet cards
